Alien: Earth New Trailer Drops Ahead of Next Month's Premiere!

The iconic Alien franchise is officially invading television!

The first live-action series in the Alien universe, Alien: Earth, is set to premiere on Disney+ on August 12th, with two episodes dropping on launch day, followed by weekly releases. The series is created by Noah Hawley, creator of the Emmy Outstanding Miniseries Fargo and creator of the X-Men series Legion. Hawley also directs the first episode. The show is set two years before the events of the original Alien film. When the mysterious deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth, “Wendy” (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.

In the year 2120, the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold. In this Corporate Era, cyborgs (humans with both biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence) exist alongside humans. But the game is changed when the wunderkind Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unlocks a new technological advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots infused with human consciousness). The first hybrid prototype named “Wendy” marks a new dawn in the race for immortality. After Weyland-Yutani’s spaceship collides into Prodigy City, “Wendy” and the other hybrids encounter mysterious life forms more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined. The trailer suggests that in addition to the Xenomorphs, other alien creatures will also appear in the series.

The cast includes Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Alex Lawther (The End of the F*ing World), Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis (The Babadook), Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger), Kit Young (Shadow and Bone), David Rysdahl (Fargo Season 5), Babou Ceesay (Into the Badlands), Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diêm Camille, and Adrian Edmondson. The series was filmed in Thailand, so viewers can expect to see stunning Thai landscapes in the trailer. The trailer also reveals that besides the iconic Xenomorphs, other alien creatures will make an appearance. The show's portrayal of robots and synthetics seems more complex than previous installments, involving several different corporations. It looks like conflicts between these various companies and different types of artificial beings will be a major focus of the series.

Disney+ also released a previous trailer over a month ago:

The first Alien film, directed by Ridley Scott, premiered in 1979, followed by four sequels, two prequels, and two crossover films with Predator (Alien vs. Predator). The most recent film in the series, Alien: Romulus, released last year to generally positive reviews and strong box office performance, second only to Prometheus in the franchise. Director Fede Álvarez recently revealed that a sequel to Alien: Romulus is tentatively scheduled to begin filming in October of this year.

Furthermore, 20th Century Studios will also release two Predator films this year. The animated film Predator: Killer of Killers already premiered on Disney+ last month. The live-action film Predator: Badlands is slated for release in November of this year. In Predator: Badlands, Elle Fanning (Maleficent series) plays a android created by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation from the Alien series, further confirming that these two alien monster franchises belong to the same cinematic universe. This raises speculation about a potential future Alien vs. Predator film.
